Aligning with the European Charter & Code for Researchers
Starting in the 2025/26 academic year, the Faculty of Human Kinetics (FMH) at the University of Lisbon launched the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) process, aiming to obtain the HR Excellence in Research Award from the European Commission.
Through this initiative, FMH seeks to strengthen its research culture and institutional practices in alignment with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. The goal is to create an environment where researchers — at all career stages — can develop their potential, contribute to scientific advancement, and pursue their careers under fair, transparent, and supportive conditions.
By adopting the HRS4R framework, FMH commits to improving its human resources policies and research support structures. This includes enhancing recruitment and evaluation procedures, promoting equality and inclusiveness, expanding opportunities for training and mentoring, and reinforcing responsible and sustainable research practices across all disciplines of human movement science.
The HR Excellence in Research Award, granted after an independent assessment by EURAXESS — a European Commission initiative that promotes research careers and mobility across Europe — represents a significant step in FMH’s commitment to fostering a research environment that values people as its greatest asset. Pursuing this award provides a framework for continuous improvement, fosters collaboration, enhances international visibility, and ensures that FMH remains an attractive and competitive institution for researchers across Europe and beyond.
